How to Start Using VOIS with Your Child
AAC modelling means showing your child how VOIS can be used by using it yourself while you speak. Your child does not have to copy you or press the same button.
Show Them What the Word Means
If your child wants juice, you might stand at the fridge, say “juice”, tap Juice on VOIS and then give them the juice. During bath time, say “bath”, tap Bath, and continue with the routine.
Model Across the Day
VOIS is not only for asking for things. You can model words during play, dressing, meals, bath time and other familiar moments. Keep the modelling connected to what is actually happening.
Start With One Meaningful Word
You do not need to model complete sentences. One useful word that matches the moment is enough. As understanding grows, you can gradually introduce more.
Do Not Expect an Immediate Response
Your child may watch you use VOIS for a while before they use it themselves. Familiarity and understanding can develop gradually. Keep the device available and continue modelling without pressure.
