Keep Home and Therapy Connected

VOIS is most useful when the people supporting your child are working toward the same communication goals. Home does not need to copy every therapy activity, but keeping important words and ideas aligned can make communication more consistent.

Share What Your Child Is Working On

Ask your child’s speech therapist or communication team which words, categories or communication goals are most useful to focus on at home right now.

Mirror the Important Vocabulary

If your child is working on a few key words in therapy, add or model those words at home where they naturally fit. You can also use familiar photos of the people, foods, toys and activities your child knows.

You Do Not Need to Recreate Therapy at Home

Home should still feel like home. The goal is simply to give your child more opportunities to see and use the same useful communication across different parts of their day.

A useful question to ask: β€œWhich words or categories would be most useful for us to model at home right now?”
Tip: Small, regular communication opportunities at home can help reinforce what your child is learning with their therapist or communication team.
