Use Clothing Your Child Knows
Where possible, use photos of your child’s actual clothing: their school shirt, jacket, shoes, pyjamas or favourite cap. Real items can be easier to recognise and more meaningful than generic pictures.
Use the Routine as a Sequence
Getting dressed naturally has a beginning, middle and end. You can model the clothing item as it appears in the routine and use action words such as put on, take off or pull up.
Support Choice and Independence
VOIS can also help your child communicate preferences. They may indicate that they want a jacket, do not want the cap, or need help with a shoe.
